We decided to have Jacob's birthday party a week early as lots of people go away during the holidays, and we really wanted to celebrate with our friends. The day before the party I decided to put the gazebo up in the corner of the grass so that we could have the paddling pools underneath as it was supposed to be a really hot day. Putting it up wasn't really any bother, just quite hot. However, I took too long finding the rope to tie it down. A huge gust of wind came along and took the gazebo up in to the air, flipped it over, and it then landed in the garden to the side of us. Jacob completely freaked out about it, and cried uncontrollably for a few minutes until I was finally able to calm him down. We got in the car and drove round to the house that I thought it may be at. Oh dear, wrong house! So we tried their neighbour wrong house again. (I was a little disorientated:) ) I decided to try one more house and we then went in the other direction.
Back down the road we went. We finally made progress then as we saw a guy outside his home, he kindly had a look over his fence and spotted the gazebo in the next house along. Unfortunately the family were not home and so I left a note with the neighbour and he passed it on for me. Anyway, long story, but we finally managed to get it back after some hassle. A bit bent up and ripped in a couple of places.I decided not to try and put it up again that day and Gareth just did it on the morning of the party.
We decided to keep the party very simple as it was a hot day. With just a few of Jacob's good friends that he plays with regularly. Lots of different fruits for morning tea before a play in the paddling pools. Once everyone had cooled off sufficiently we went inside for a game of musical dots. (Dots instead of chairs)
Then it was time for the birthday cake. Unfortunately we didn't have time to make the cake from scratch and make a brilliant model one like previous cakes. But the one we were able to assemble was a big hit with Jacob anyway, especially as he was able to keep the cars after!
Happy 5th Birthday Jacob!
