Fairbridge festival- Camping

I thought it was about time that I blogged about our camping trip to Fairbridge festival in Pinjarra.
We arrived mid-afternoon on a hot friday after picking Gareth up from a train station after work. We started setting the tent up, however, we forgot to pack a hammer! Not helpful when you are in a country that is hot and doesn't get much rain during the summer, autumn. The ground is the hardest I think we've ever tried to push tent pegs in to! We were using rocks, then a car tool, then somebody that was pitched behind us lent us a hammer. However, it was so old, that it broke the first time Gareth tried to use it! So this job took a lot longer than expected. Once this was done though everything else followed quickly:)
We were camped in a field with portaloo's and a couple of showers. As I've mentioned the ground was incredibly dry, and is usually home to kangaroo's and cows. So, everywhere was covered with kangaroo poo and cow pats that had dried out and gone dusty. It got in to absolutely everything! I can't tell you how freaked out I was by it!

This is the view from the right side of our tent...
and this is the view from the left:)

We went with our good friends, Nansi and Stuart Swain and their two children. They didn't arrive until much later so we cooked dinner while we waited for them. Jacob and Ollie really enjoyed using our cool picnic table!

The Swains finally arrived...whilst they set their tent up we cooked dinner for them too.

The boys went off too explore what was around and watch a couple of acts once the children were all tucked up for the night, Nansi and I stayed at the tents and chatted.
The next day we went to the children's entertainment and found 'circus in a suitcase'. This proved very popular with all the children.

Nearby there was a tent with free facepainting, we watched for a while then Jacob and Ollie decided they would both like their faces painted. They both wanted to be lions! This was the first time for either of them to have their face painted and I was extremely impressed with how nicely they sat and not freak out:)

We had lunch, Ollie decided to to try out climbing a tree and then we walked around during the afternoon while Ollie slept in the pushchair. We then took the boys out after dark to check out a couple of the acts.
Sunday morning, we had a leisurely start, messed around at the tents, kids played in the dried cow pats and kangaroo poo, before we went to meet a couple of other friends who had driven down for the day.

We went to see a clown show, I think Ollie thought it may be too loud for Gareth!

Now, I've mentioned that this was proper camping. Only a couple of showers available, that always had queue's and portaloo's, so keeping clean was a near impossible task!

Ollie and Jacob decided they needed their faces painted again, but this time they wanted their whole face done. I should let you know that Ollie asked for a car and Jacob a tiger! There was a professional face painter there, however, there was a huge queue for her so we had a couple of young girls paint the boys. It didn't really matter though as the boys were extremely happy with the end result.
Pizza for dinner with the Moretons, Clair and the Swains.

After dinner we went to listen to an all male choir, who were absolutely fantastic! All our friends made their way home after this act. As we were staying another night we went back to our tent and had an early night! The quietest night of the weekend! We had only a few other people left in the field we were staying in.

Then it was our turn to go home!
It was such a fun weekend, I really had to learn to relax and not worry that we were all dirty and couldn't stay clean for 3 days but the long, hot shower once we got home was the best bit for me! I can't wait for the next camping trip.
