After leaving our friends and packing up, it was time for us to leave Albany and head towards Esperance. We hadn't been able to book any accommodation due to it being peak season. We knew about some bush camps that you can't book, you just turn up, find a spot and camp. However, these range from having no facilities, to having showers, toilets and running water for cooking etc. As you can imagine I was very keen for the latter! We have a WA roads and tracks book and this includes campsites and what you can expect. We decided on which one we would try first and if there wasn't space then we would drive to the next one and the next one until we did. The first one was full, and to be honest I wasn't that keen, I couldn't see any showers but there was a toilet. We then drove to the next one. It was 30km down a dirt track off the main road that heads to Esperance. They had space, it had toilets (not flushing but then this is bushcamping), a shower and clean running water. It was also a very short walk on to Munglinup beach. It ticked all the boxes so we decided to stay even though we were still about 130 km from Esperance.
Once we were set up we realised that we had a flat tyre. Boo! Gareth changed the tyre over but it did mean that we needed to get a new one so that we could have a spare. So the next day we drove in to Esperance. No where selling tyres was open. So we just went to a cafe for a drink and then a bit of a walk around.

A couple of days later we headed to Esperance to try and get the tryes sorted again. We were successful this time.

And after a very tiring day, the boys fell fast asleep, even though there was incredible wind building up outside.

As I just mentioned the wind was building up. We had to make the decision to take down the gazebo and bring everything inside! I was very impressed that the boys carried on sleeping through all the noise that was going on.
It was really difficult to sleep with the noise, and it didn't help that a kangaroo knocked in to the wall of our tent where we were trying to sleep either!
The next morning the weather had calmed down and was warming up quickly. We decided it was fine to put the gazebo back up. What I hadn't seen when we were packing it down in the dark was this fellow hiding in the corner. I've been told it's a variation of the Huntsman Spider. Hurts like **** if you get bitten but it's not usually fatal. I'm extremely glad that he decided not to explore our tent while we had it inside!!

Breakfast, in the corner behind the boys is where the spider was.

On New Years Day we left the campsite to go to Hyden.
We met up with the Moreton's again. As we were only staying one night, we stayed at the Hyden Hotel Motel. We voted on going to explore straight away. So our first stop was Mulka's cave.
We climbed out the other side and went for a walk. It was really hot and there were a lot of flies! The fly nets to go over our hats came out!

We got to Wave Rock late afternoon. It may have been better to go earlier the next day then the sun light would have shown the colours up better.

From there we drove round to the Hippo's Yawn.
The next morning we packed up the cars, checked out and went to the wildlife park.
We have a very cool fridge now that can cope with the heat here, which is great, it also means that we always have food on hand for those surprise stops for a bbq:)
Jacob was also very keen to do a spot of fishing. Just to the left is a peir that you can fish from. It was extremely breezy but we all enjoyed it. We even managed to catch a few fish. Admittedly we had to throw most back as they weren't edible or were too small. But it didn't matter one bit to Jacob and Ollie!
On our way back to Munglinup campsite.
Teatime. Whilst we were on the peir Gareth gutted and cleaned the fish that we could eat. There wasn't enough for a full meal for the boys, more of a small starter. (We had to top them up with fish fingers!!)

We saw some great wildlife whilst we were camping. The first was a great big stingray gently gliding its way along the shore of Munglinup beach. I didn't have my camera though. :(
Another time, I can't remember which day it was, but we went to the beach before bedtime for a play. On the way back I thought it would be easier to take the boys to the toilet before going back to the tent. As Ollie and I rounded the corner to go up a ramp to the toilet I spotted something long and stick like across the bottom of the ramp. I grabbed Ollie's hand and moved swiftly away. I then had a peek from a safer distance and there laying out enjoying the last of the evening sun were two pythons. My first experience of seeing snakes in the wild in Australia. I'm just gutted that I didn't have my camera with me that time either.
