School Holiday Swimming

It has been about a month since I posted about the boys and their swimming abilities. Oh, how things change:) Jacob was told just before we went away that he would be staying in the Barnacle group as he wasn't confident still, not floating and hating putting his face in the water. So I signed Jacob up for the second week of the holidays swim programme. This means he has a lesson every day for 5 days. I was told if he improved during this week then he may be able to move up to the crocodile group, which Jacob is desperate to do. While we were on holiday we had Jacob practise a bit of his floating and putting his face in the water. He wasn't too keen, but did do it a couple of times. So Monday was the first day, he put his face in the water, but it was a very fast dip in and out again, and floating, he held tight to the teacher.
On Tuesday there was a slight improvement, but still not great.
On Wednesday, much better! He kept his face in for a slow count to 3 and with the help of a strap on back float, floated all by himself on his front in a perfect starfish shape:) He did try on his back too, but was a little wobbly.
Today is Thursday, and OH MY GOODNESS!!! I didn't recognise my son, I was the mummy sat at the side, so proud with tears rolling down my face. I'm welling up as I'm typing just thinking about it! Jacob did a perfect front float starfish shape with NO help, Not even a back float for support, and once he did it the first time, there was no stopping him:) He even floated on his back! He then swam across the area of the pool with his face in, straight legs (something else we're working on) and using a kick board held out in front of him! While he was waiting for his turn again, he held on to the side of the pool to push himself down to sit on the floor! I just couldn't believe my eyes! Ollie does this, not my Jacob! I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Well, friday came and Jacob's teacher was not there! I was a little annoyed as I had been told that at the end of the week I would be told if Jacob can move up a class. So I went to talk to the replacement teacher and introduced myself, and the first thing she told me was that Jacob was moving up in to the Crocodile group!!!! I am absolutely thrilled for Jacob, He has worked so hard this week to be able to move up and his confidence is through the roof. We even had to go swimming again on saturday, just so he could show his daddy what he can now do:) The only trouble is after switching Ollie's swimming day so that I don't have to go twice a week, Jacob has had to change days as there was no space left on monday in the crocodile group. Never mind!
