Jacob had his first school assembly recently.....
It was based on a book about manners, using please and Thank you. He was given a couple of sentences to say and had them written down so that he could practice at home. He was to tell the school his name and to introduce his class to everyone. He was adament that he did not need to practice at home because he knew what to say and had been practicing at school. I didn't push him, and left it alone. He was a bit upset though as he did not have a main speaking part.
On the day, He was very excited that Nanny was able to come and watch. We watched the class file out and set themselves up while the rest of the school came and sat down. Everyone sang the national anthem and the school song, both sounding very good.
It came to Jacob's turn to stand up and speak. He was very clear and spoke so that everyone could hear. I was so very proud of him. He was still a bit upset at not having a main part, but then we found out that one of the children didn't have anything to say at all! ( The teacher hadn't realised, as the child hadn't said anything when the teacher was checking that everyone had something to say.)
